Number of Cards
Fishing Hot Spots sells its maps on preloaded cards that can be inserted into your favorite global positioning systems (GPS) device. Both the Elite line and the PRO line come on four cards.
States Covered
The Fishing Hot Spots mapping system covers all of the continental states in the United States. Each of the four cards in the system split up the states into four regions: the west, south, east and north. Anglers should pay attention to the specific states listed on their card, as the Fishing Hot Spots company has reorganized the states on each card. For example, the eastern card in the Elite system does not have the same states as the eastern card in the PRO system.
Lakes
The Fishing Hot Spots mapping products are popular among lake anglers. The PRO system has a distinct advantage over the Elite system in this category. While the Elite system covers approximately 2,000 lakes, the PRO system boosts this number to 3,260. In addition, 480 of the lakes in the PRO system have additional details included such as fishery information and built-in fishing tips. The Elite system lacks this extra data.
Depth of Research
The PRO system includes significantly more research for anglers than the Elite system. Much of it comes from new technology that was not available when the Elite system was first launched. While the Elite maps include depth contour lines and shoreline details, the PRO system goes a step further. For example, it includes urban and rural information such as nearby roads, landmarks and urban centers. This can help anglers in both off- and on-water GPS navigation. In addition, many of the maps include shoreline details such as the location of marinas and boathouses.
