Riomaggiore, Italy, is the first village on the Cinque Terre, an astonishingly beautiful section of the Italian Rivera comprised of five villages built into the steep and rugged coastline. This is where the famed Cinque Terre trail begins. The first section of the trail, commonly called the Lover's Path (Via dell'Amore), connects Riomaggiore and Manarola, the next village. This section of the trail is the most popular and, not coincidentally, the most leisurely. Paved and well-kept, it offers a breezy introduction to the subsequent--and more challenging--sections of the Cinque Terre trail. A beautiful and vibrant town, Riomaggiore is the perfect place to camp out before tackling the Cinque Terre.
