L.A. Chinatown Moon Festival Fun Bike Ride & 5K Run/Walk

The L.A. Chinatown Moon Festival Fun Bike Ride & 5K Run/Walk is the oldest annual mid-autumn Moon Festival in southern California. For 2009, the festival takes place on October 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. A bike ride and a 5K run/walk take place as part of the festival. The festival includes cultural entertainment such as the Shaolin Warriors of Chinatown and some Chinese acrobats. Festival festivities are free, but there are entry fees for the bike ride and the 5K run/walk. The bike ride begins at 3:30 p.m. and the 5K run/walk begins at 7:30 p.m.

Boo at the L.A. Zoo

Each October the L.A. Zoo has Boo at the L.A. Zoo. This event is suitable for all ages and typically occurs that last two weekends of October. For 2009, Boo at the L.A. Zoo takes place on October 24, 25, 31 and November 1. All regular exhibits are still accessible during Boo at the L.A. Zoo. Special activities include face painting, pumpkin patches, eerie crafts, jack-o-lantern carving, the Freaky Fun House and an amusement zone. All of the Boo at the L.A. Zoo festivities and attractions are included with zoo admission.

West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval

The West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval has been happening each year on Santa Monica Boulevard since 1987. The event is free and features a week of lead-up festivities before the actual West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval. Lead-up events include a youth carnival and a pet costume contest. The West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval takes place each year on October 31 between 6 p.m. and midnight.
