Cheap Hostels in Ivrea, Italy

funnymos.com

The town of Ivrea in the Piedmont region is known for an unusual event that takes place each Carnivale, The Battle of the Oranges. The whole town gets together and divides itself into nine teams to whip oranges at each other. No one is sure how this event came about, considering oranges are not locally grown. Besides this odd celebration, Ivrea, Italy, is known for some striking cathedrals and lakes from Canavese. One can visit the sights easily on foot or by bicycle, staying at hostels between each stop.

La Villa

La Villa is conveniently located in the midst of the Canavese Lakes, famous throughout the Piedmont region. Rent a bicycle for the day and travel lakeside, then return in the evening and have the cook bake something from the fruits you picked off the trees for dessert. Rates are 66 Euros for two in a private room (as of September 2009).

Campeggio Valchiusella

Campeggio Valchiusella is a campground just outside of Ivrea that is easily accessed from the town center. Known mainly by locals who come to the region to swim in the lakes, it's located through word of mouth and hard to book outside of Piedmont if you don't speak Italian, partly because the rates are 13 Euros a night (as of September 2009).
