Hotels in Hawaii

Hotels in Hawaii
Hawaii has hundreds of hotels to choose from, offering amenities that range from extravagant dining experiences to simple beachfront villas. Some Hawaiian hotels also provide extra services that are helpful for outdoor vacations, such as childcare while you are hiking and spa treatments for sore muscles when you return. Consider these services, along with hotel locations, costs and sizes, when choosing a hotel service for a Hawaiian recreational vacation.

Grand Wailea Resort

One of the most prestigious hotels in Hawaii, the Grand Wailea Resort in Maui is conveniently located close to numerous outdoor recreation opportunities. It provides its guests enough amenities to stay occupied at the resort for the entire stay without traveling more than a mile or two away. You and your kids can frolic in the large pool, complete with a snaking river and several large slides and rapids. Dine in one of five restaurants, have a cocktail in one of the two lounges or browse in the on-site shopping mall. Feeling adventurous? Participate in a water recreation activity and rent a kayak, surfboard or snorkel gear and take a tour or visit a scuba diving pool. The resort spa offers a plethora of relaxing services to help you unwind. The average cost of an economy room as of 2009 is $550 per night.

JW Marriott Ihilani Resort at Ko Olina

Located on the west shore of Oahu, the Ihilani is in one of the nicest regions of the island, away from the nearby cities. At an average cost of $400 per night (2009 prices) the Ihilani also offers more affordable rates than other hotels on the island. It provides its guests with marina facilities for boat owners and four private, man-made lagoons on-site for snorkeling and swimming. Four restaurants and a lounge are located on the premises for dining options, and a luau is adjacent to the hotel for an authentic Polynesian experience. Be prepared to drive an hour or more for activities in Honolulu and elsewhere on the island; you will need to rent a vehicle. Many hiking opportunities are outside the city.
