Greenville, South Carolina is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, famous for its abundance of waterfalls, trails and picnic areas. There are numerous state parks surrounding the city, and an ample supply of cabins to stay in, ranging from luxury villas to rustic "camping cabins." If the outdoors are calling you, then head out for a few miles in any direction from this city's interior, and you're sure to find solitude amidst the evergreens.

Solitude Point

For a cozy collection of luxury cabins in the foothills, less than 20 miles from the metropolitan Greenville area, try Solitude Pointe. The 12-acre estate has six cabins, which sleep to four adults and two children, with varying features like screened porches, decks and hot tubs. Every cabin has a refrigerator, stove, air conditioning and heating, private bathrooms and television with DVD players. Movies are available to rent from the office. The grounds encourage relaxing in the outdoor rocking chairs, and fishing from the property's private dock. The property also offers RV sites and a special events lodge for up to 100 people, and it is open to guests year-round.

Devil's Fork State Park

The Devils Fork State Park is about 36 miles from Greenville, and is the only way to access Lake Jocassee. Although it is a state park, the lodging facilities are far from rustic. The park offers 20 villas tucked into the woods, 15 of which have two bedrooms, and the remaining five have three bedrooms. The cabins come stocked with cooking and eating utensils, linens, heat, air conditioning, televisions, microwaves and a screened porch. Barbecue grills and picnic tables are also provided for each cabin. Water is the name of the game in this lakefront park, which is popular with fishermen, boaters and scuba divers. A two-night minimum stay is required for the villas, or one week in the summer months. Free wireless Internet connections are available at the park store and information center.
