Tandem biking is a great way to share the outdoors with a friend as well as a way to add teamwork to the generally individual sport of cycling. In addition to sharing pedaling responsibilities, tandem cyclists must also be able to shift weight as a team to effectively turn and maneuver. While many high-end tandem bikes can be prohibitive in price, there are affordable options.

Kent DualDrive Tandem Bicycle

Kent's DualDrive tandem bicycle features a low stepover frame for easy mounting and dismounting, a 21-speed Shimano drive train with Revo Twist shifters and spring gel saddles for added comfort. As of April 2010, it retails for around $260.

Greenline 7-Speed Tandem

Greenline's 7-speed Tandem bicycle features an easy step-through frame, independent pedaling system, optical gear display, chrome-plated components and padded cruiser seats. As of April 2010, it can be found for around $270.

Pacific Dualie Tandem Bike

Pacific's Dualie tandem bike features a 21-speed Shimano drive train with SRAM grip twist shifters, 26-inch tires for a smooth, stable ride and front and rear Promax brakes. As of April 2010, it retails for approximately $290 to $360.

GT-2 Beach Cruiser Tandem Bike

GT-2's Beach Cruiser Tandem Bike features an 18-speed Shimano drive train, SRAM grip shifters and front and rear aluminum alloy v-brakes. All black rims and spokes, 26-inch tires and twin-spring saddles add style and comfort. As of April 2010, it costs just under $300.

Mongoose Wanderer AL Tandem Bike

Mongoose's Wanderer AL tandem bike features a 21-speed SRAM drive train with SRAM grip shifters, lightweight Supersonic alloy 36-hole rims, alloy linear-pull brakes for secure stopping power and a solid aluminum frame. As of April 2010, prices range from $280 to $340.
