Kayak Clubs in Ocala

Located in north central Florida, the city of Ocala is a great location for people who love to explore nature. For avid paddlers, there are dozens of lakes nearby, the ocean and gulf are a short drive away and Ocala National Forest is spread over hundreds of acres near the city. If you're looking for a group to kayak with while you're in Ocala, there are several clubs that plan outings throughout the year, and all of them welcome newcomers.

Marion County Aquaholics

The Marion County Aquaholics is a family-oriented kayaking and canoeing group that calls itself "Florida's most active paddlers." The club plans at least two day trips every month, as well as an overnight camping trip with kayaking or canoeing, and the activities also include river clean-ups, an annual fundraising effort and a Christmas campout party. The Marion County Aquaholics meet every third Wednesday at 7 p.m. to coordinate trips and plans, and currently have about 150 members. The club welcomes people of all ages and skill levels, and membership fees are $10 a year for singles and $15 a year for families.

Mosquito Lagoon Kayakers

Mosquito Lagoon Kayakers are a group of people in central Florida who plan trips, maintain a detailed website and advocate for safe and responsible paddling. The club usually kayaks through Ocala National Forest, throughout Volusia and St. John's Counties, and sometime venture further afield if members are interested. Paddlers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to be a part of Mosquito Lagoon Kayakers, and allow any sort of kayaks on rips. Beyond recreational trips, the group also participates in conservation efforts and charity events.

North Central Florida Explorers

The North Central Florida Explorers are an informal group of people who enjoy being in the outdoors and get together to explore local forests and state parks. While the club organizes bi-monthly hiking excursion, it also has regular kayak trips on local waterways. The North Central Florida Explorers participate in a variety of kayaking charity events, such as the annual Paddlers Poker Run that benefits Florida's youth and the "Relay the River Rat Way" with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
