Regardless of where youngsters live, they are likely constantly consumed by electronics, computers, gadgets and technology. Moving at the speed of thought in intellectual endeavors has its benefits. However, it's hard to replace getting in touch with nature to build self-confidence and strengthen a young person's connection to the world around him.

Benton, Tennessee, is a nestled up close to the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, one of the nation's most beautiful national parks. It has a lot to offer in the way of outdoor adventures.

Camp Ocoee

Action, adventure, and excitement await children and teens ages 7-17 at Camp Ocoee, 10 miles outside of Benton.
Presented a diverse blend of choices, the youth staying in these cabins won't have a chance to miss their electronics. They choose from a wide range of activities, among them paintball, water skiing, mountain biking, water rafting and horseback riding.
The youngsters stay either one or two weeks. If they will be staying over the weekend between camps, there are activities planned for that interim as well. The camp is highly structured while allowing for choice, giving students a sense of self, a sense of independence. The camp offers leadership training for teens who are looking to improve their college applications with a position of leadership.

Smoky Mountain Adventure Camp

Smoky Mountain Adventure Camp has been introducing youth ages 8 to 18 years to the outdoors since 2002. Located 10 miles outside of Benton, the camp lasts from five days to four weeks. Activities include backpacking, whitewater rafting, climbing and rappelling, kayaking, team building, and even ice skating.

Ocoee Inn

Ocoee Inn offers seven cabins on Lake Ocoee as well as river rafting excursions spring through summer.

Their river rafting adventure is five miles of whitewater river winding through the Cherokee National Forest. The whitewater rafting events during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics were held on this river, so you know it's great river rafting on the Ocoee River.

The Ocoee Inn rafting provides professional guides, and their focus is on safety.
Also available for the whole family: lessons for wakeboarding and water skiing. The marina also rents fishing boats, pontoon boats and canoes.
