Casper, Wyoming, is located on the banks of the North Platte River, with a population of approximately 50,000. The town is named after Fort Casper, which was constructed in the 19th century when people were immigrating to the American West. Casper is within 30 minutes driving distance from the Thunder Basin grasslands region, which offers opportunities for camping and horseback riding. There are hotels in the area that can accommodate you during your visit to Casper.

The Days Inn Casper is situated right off of Interstate 25 and is less than two miles east of the North Platte River, which has facilities for fishing and boating. Best Western Ramotka Hotel

The Best Western Ramotka Hotel is 10 minutes driving distance from the Fort Casper Historical Grounds. The hotel's amenities include Castaway Bay, an on-site water park, and an on-site restaurant, Remington's, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some of the guest rooms at this hotel include a sofa bed and balcony. The Best Western is approximately 15 minutes driving distance from the skiing and snowmobiling opportunities that can be had at Hogadon Ski Resort on Casper Mountain. The hotel is less than 30 minutes from the Alcova and Pathfinder Reservoirs, which offer fishing and boating opportunities, as well as hiking and cycling trails. The Alcova Reservoir is also one of the bookends for the 64-mile Seminoe to Alcova Back Country Byway that runs from the lake to the Seminoe Mountains. The Holiday Inn Express Casper is approximately five miles west of North Casper Park, a recreational area located on the North Platte River. This waterfront park features facilities for picnics and walking paths. Hotel amenities include an indoor swimming pool, fitness room and business center with fax services. The guest rooms at the Holiday Inn Express include a cable television and a work desk. There are also rooms available that are accessible for guests with physical disabilities. The Holiday Inn Express is less than 10 minutes driving distance from South Bighorn/Red Wall Back Country Byway, a 101-mile parkway that runs from the hills near Casper to the Bighorn Mountains. The byway offers access to hiking trails and campgrounds.
