Jamaica's lush jungle setting and rugged mountains make for great 4x4 cross-country fun, but booking with the right tour company is imperative. You want to make sure the company you book your off-road adventure with has experienced guides, well-maintained equipment and respects the culture and nature of Jamaica.

ATV Tours

This Quad tour from Chukka Caribbean Adventures starts off with a ride through the Rose Hall Plantation near Montego Bay, where guests learn the history of former resident Annie Palmer, also known as the White Witch. Then the tour heads up the mountain for panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and on to the village of Mount Zion, where guests can tour a centuries old church and hang out with the locals at an area bar.

Similar tours are offered by Wilderness Tours (see Resources).

Off-Road Tour

Exploring Jamaica's less traveled South Coast, this 4x4 tour is offered by Island Routes. Guests climb into modern Land Rovers for a guided tour of the rugged jungle and natural beauty that is Jamaica. Pit stops at local bars and landmarks, like the Slave Hospital, provide ample time for guides to discuss the history, culture and nature of Jamaica before visiting natural springs, where guests can rejuvenate.

Dune Buggy Tours

Departing from both Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, dune buggy tours are another adventure offered by Chukka Caribbean Adventures. Guests board two-seater dune buggies and ride through orchards and plantations, where locals tell about the plantation history of the island. After the trek, guests are treated to a swim on a local beach and drinks.

Bob Marley Tour

This tour, also from Chukka Caribbean Adventures, is conducted in a 4x4 jeep. The jeep tour leaves Ocho Rios and winds up through the lush Jamaican jungle to the village of Nine Mile, the birthplace of Bob Marley. Guests on the tour will meet Marley's family, including Mother B and Uncle Lloyd, who tell stories of his childhood. The tour visits his childhood home, Mount Zion Rock, his meditation spot and his grave.
