Bike Seats for Men

No other bike-related part or accessory seems to inspire quite the degree of praise or loathing as the average bike seat. What feels like a couch to one man may feel like torture to another. Physiology differs from one individual to another, so there's no such thing as a universally comfortable bike seat. Accordingly, men's bike seats come in variety of shapes and sizes, designed to accommodate the particular man, as well as his choice of riding style.

Fizik Arione (Road/Mountain)

Designed for road cyclists with a competitive bent, the Fizik Arione can be spotted on professional and amateur bikes. Featuring a sleek, narrow profile, the Arione uses a lightweight carbon shell that's designed to flex downward during a rider's power stroke. The design improves comfort and efficiency. The Fizik Arione weighs 225 g and retails for $149 as of March 2010.

Brooks England Imperial B-17 (Sport Touring)

A regal looking seat, the Brooks England Imperial is made of hardy leather and steel. A center cutout reduces overall weight while relieving tension upon the male perineum. The leather body provides flex and increased comfort. Loops at the rear of the seat allow for the attachment of a touring bag. The Brooks England Imperial B-17 weighs 510 g and retails for $165.

Profile Design Tri-Stryke (Triathlon)

With its lean profile and extra padding, the Profile Design Tri-Stryke provides aerodynamics and comfort to triathletes looking to gain an edge. A center cutout relieves groin pressure and helps transfer excess moisture. Areas at the front and rear of the seat make it easier to rack the bike during the transition from riding to running. The Profile Design Tri-Stryke weighs 310 g and retails for $55.

Terry Liberator Y Gel (Recreational)

Featuring thick padding and a sculpted shape, the Terry Liberator promises all-day comfort. Center cutout and strategically placed gel inserts help lessen pressure on sensitive tissue areas, while a leather seat cover provides durability and good looks. The Terry Liberator Y Gel seat weighs 374 g and retails for $63.
