DeForest Public Library
The DeForest Public Library holds many activities for children of all ages. Children can join the 1,000 Books Club, which awards prizes for the number of books read. Tiny Tot Time and Preschool Story Hour give younger children literary opportunities, while the teen program includes various games and learning opportunities such as chess, music or book clubs. The program also highlights children's authors each month with readings, crafts, music and special guests. Some of the available programs require registration and have limited participation.

All American Day Camp
During the summer months, children learn and remain active by participating in the All American Day Camp. The camp provides themed days with field trips, community service, cooking, arts and crafts, sports, science experiments and many other activities geared toward children. Registration and fees apply.

Recreational Programs

Veterans Park and Ice Rink
While the winter weather allows, Veterans Park and Ice Rink provides ice skating fun during daytime and evening hours. Recreation Department workers build the ice up slowly to make it optimal for children and adults. However, skaters are urged to use good judgment in determining the safety of the ice.

Other DeForest Parks
DeForest boasts many other children's parks varying in size and equipment. Fireman's Park covers 11 acres with lighted softball and baseball fields, horseshoe pits, basketball hoops, playground equipment and a picnicking area. Western Green Park contains playground equipment, sand volleyball courts, picnicking areas, a soccer field and a hiking trail on 34 acres. Liberty Land park also contains a walking trail, picnicking area and playground equipment for children.

Yahara River Trails System
While the entire trail remains to be completed, DeForest contains multiple trail segments through which to walk, skate or ride. Segments currently varying from four-tenths of a mile to two miles in length, these trails will eventually loop through DeForest and connect to the Dane County Trail System for a total of 18 miles.
