Maplewood, Minnesota is a suburb of the state capital of St. Paul, known for housing the corporate headquarters of the 3M Corporation. Located off the Mississippi River, the area is surrounded by lakes and parks, including Indian Mounds Park, the Wabasha Street Caves and Lake Como, a free public greenhouse and urban zoo that is open year round. The many lakes in the area offer fishing and swimming in the warmer months. The various lakes also have trails for avid walkers and bicyclists. For visitors, looking for a motel, (an establishment providing lodging for motorists with rooms having direct access to an open parking), the Maplewood/St. Paul area has many.

The Days Inn Maplewood is close to the Como Park Zoo and the Maplewood Mall. It is also just 13 miles from the airport and 15 miles from the Mall of America. The facility offers high-speed Internet, an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, and accepts pets for an additional $10 per day. Guest rooms provide coffee makers, microwave, mini-fridge and a television with satellite and HBO. There is an on-site restaurant and lounge for convenience. As of March, 2010, rates are reasonable, starting at $50 per night.

LivINN Suites is located right on Tanner Lake in the heart of Maplewood. Many rooms look right onto the lake for a water view. Fishing and swimming are popular water sports at the lake. The inn offers rooms for rent on a daily or weekly basis. For business travelers, the inn is directly across the street from 3M headquarters. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, whirlpool bathtubs, microwave and mini-fridges in the rooms, along with free coffee in the lobby. As of March, 2010, rates start at $44 per night.

Holiday Inn St. Paul I-94

Located just three miles from downtown Maplewood is The Holiday Inn St. Paul, right off I-94, the main highway running through Maplewood. The inn offers a spa, heated indoor pool, a billiards room and facilities for banquets and conferences. There is also a complimentary breakfast buffet, cocktail hour and dinner snacks along with free daily newspapers. The rooms provide cable, pay-per-view, coffee maker and mini-fridge. Rates as of March, 2010 are $72 per night.
