Boat Minnesota
Boat Minnesota is the official Minnesota Department of Natural Resources online safety course where boaters can obtain a state boater education certificate. The duration of the online course is 3 hours. A temporary certificate can be printed immediately after passing the course. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also offers a free home-study course and a boating course in a classroom environment led by an experienced instructor. Scheduled classroom courses can be found at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website.

Recreational Sports Outdoor Program
The University of Minnesota Duluth offers the Recreational Sports Outdoor Program. The program offers canoe and kayak safety and instructions depending on skill level. Safety and Rescue Course and Basic Sea Kayak Strokes and Rescues are offered. There also are kayak tour courses that are designed for boaters who want to learn sea kayaking in a monitored and safe environment. Courses focus on kayaking safety, paddling skill development and risk management training. A variety of kayaking courses also are available including eco-kayak tours, pool-based kayak bracing and rolling as well as climb and sea kayak combo courses.

Superior Kayak and Outdoor Adventure Club
Superior Kayak & Outdoor Adventure Club is based in Twin Cities and is comprised of a group of experienced paddlers, instructors and kayaking enthusiasts. The club is dedicated to exploring Lake Superior and other water trails around the Upper Midwest region. The club offers kayak safety and skills development classes taught by American Canoe Association (ACA) certified instructors. Classes include ACA Basic Strokes and Rescues, Introduction to Lake Superior Touring, ACA Flatwater and Coastal Kayaking and Pool Sessions.
