Oboz Yellowstone
The Yellowstone, by new manufacturer Oboz, provides an excellent choice for lightweight but full-featured hiking boots. The Yellowstones combine a nubuck leather upper with specially shaped soles designed to more closely hug the feet than other comparable hiking boots. With separate foot beds designed for men and women, the Oboz are sure to be comfortable. Plus, the boot manages to maintain a light weight while also providing full ankle support. While the boots are well-ventilated, don't expect the mild waterproofing to hold up under wet conditions that last more than a few hours. Oboz's Yellowstone boots can be purchased for $125.
Keen Voyageur Low
This hiking shoe emphasizes ventilation over everything. Expect your toes to stay cool in these lightweight hiking boots. Of course, this comes at the cost of waterproofing, but the synthetic materials are designed to dry extra quickly, returning you to comfort as soon as possible. While the low-cut doesn't fully support your ankle, these boots do a good job of protecting your feet, particularly with the massive toe-guard that will keep you kicking for days on the trail. The lightweight Keen Voyageur Lows cost approximately $100.
Nike ACG Air Dredge
For those all about speed, the Nike ACG Air Dredge is essentially a Nike running shoe grafted on to a hiking sole. Oddly enough, this Frankensteinian creation works out quite well. The soles are designed with superb traction that perfectly handles downhills and ups. Plus, these shoes are light, at only two pounds per pair. The Nike ACG Air Dredge cost around $85.
Asolo Focus
These lightweight boots come in at just over two pounds for the pair. However, they are designed to take on any load, making for a backpacking boot with unprecedented agility. While they don't go up to your ankle, the Asolo Focus does everything possible to support weight, whether it be the thick Vibram soles or the cushy midsole and insole. Plus, these bad boys are practically indestructible. The Asolo Focus can be picked up for $80.
