German Restaurants in Louisville, Kentucky

As the largest city in Kentucky, Louisville is internationally known as the home to the annual Kentucky Derby horse races. Historically, Louisville was established in 1780 and today it is the largest city in the state of Kentucky. Louisville has 122 parks that include the Louisville Waterfront Park and Cherokee Park that features basketball, golf, and horse riding trails, fishing and hiking. As for dining, there are also several German restaurants in Louisville and its general vicinity.

Erika's German Restaurant

Erika's German Restaurant is a casual, family-friendly establishment located in the Hurstbourne Acres neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. This affordable eatery is opened for dinner from Tuesday through Saturday. Erika's has carry-out services, handicap access, and beer and wine is served as well. German specialties include lightly breaded pork loin served with fresh lemon, which is called schnitzel "wiener art" and geschmorter sauerbraten, which is beef that has slow-roasted for three days in a red wine marinade.

Gasthaus

Gasthaus is a family-owned and operated restaurant that has been serving authentic German fare since 1993. Not only are the recipes authentic, but the entire restaurant has a German theme from the design scheme and decorations to the uniforms worn by the wait staff. The dining room is filled with checkered table clothes and bright red flowers. Many of the menu items are a la carte; however, special dishes are prepared by the chef per request of the customer. The beer and wine list has a host of German brands. Opened for dinner from Tuesday through Saturday, dinner entrees as Gasthaus include chicken cordon bleu served with spatzle, stroganoff, bratwurst, and Wiener schnitzel, which is breaded veal that is sautéed and served over a creamy sauce.

Steinert's Grill and Pub

Across the Ohio River just five miles east of Louisville, Steinert's Grill and pub has been serving German fare in New Albany, Indiana since 1877. In addition to a German restaurant, Steinert's is also a bar that has a bustling environment that features Karaoke nights, dance parties and live music. Reservations are not required at this establishment that has multiple TVs for the viewing of sporting events. German menu items include the house specialty, the New Albany schnitzel that is pan-fried pork tenderloin topped with ham, fried egg, hollandaise sauce, and served with a side of sauerkraut.
