Monticello
Monticello is an estate located just along the outskirts of Charlottesville in Virginia. The Monticello house was designed by Thomas Jefferson, one of the most influential founding fathers of America. The estate, built in 1772, sits on top of an 850-foot high peak in the Southwest Mountains, hence the name Monticello which means "little mountain" in Italian. Jefferson's design of the house was largely influenced by neoclassical Italian design and an Italian Renaissance inspiration is quite evident in the layout of both the estate and the house. For a house that is over 200 years old, Monticello remains in excellent condition. It features a dairy building, wash houses, store houses, a nail factory and slave dwellings, one of which was the home of Sally Hemings, a mistress of Thomas Jefferson. The estate is regarded as one of the most popular monuments in Virginia.

Marine Corps War Memorial
The Marine Corp War Memorial, also called the Iwo Jima Memorial, was completed in 1954 in Arlington. The monument is a memorial to the soldiers of the U.S. Marine Corps who gave their lives in defense of the country since 1775. The design of the memorial depicts the famous photo "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima" taken during World War II; six American solders can be seen raising an American flag. While it is now a national monument, the Marine Corps War Memorial is still used as a centerpiece by local U.S. Marines during weekly Sunset Parade.

George Washington Masonic Memorial
George Washington Masonic Memorial is a large Masonic building located in Alexandra, built in 1932. As its name implies, it is dedicated to George Washington, the first president of America and a member of the Freemasons. The building is influenced by the Lighthouse of Alexandria in Egypt, as homage to great architecture. Masons are regarded as master craftsmen so it is no surprise that the building is admired as one of Virginia's best displays of classical architecture.
