Lhasa is the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China, nestled along the foot of Mount Gephel. This city has traditionally been the seat of the Dalai Lama and is home to the Norbulingka and Potala palaces. It has one of the highest altitudes of any city in the world and features a cool, dry steppe climate and thinner air, making strenuous activity more labor-intensive. Mountain hiking trails and rock climbing expeditions, however, attract more adventurous travelers. The city hosts several luxury hotels whose accommodations cater to discerning visitors.

Four Points by Sheraton

This deluxe 102-room hotel is situated in the heart of the city, a 10-minute walk from the ancient Barkhor Street and Jokhang Temple. The property features a well-maintained southeast Asian style courtyard in the center and offers amenities like a currency exchange, luggage hold, concierge, laundry and dry-cleaning service, shoe shine, airport shuttle, in-room massages, and safety deposit boxes at the 24-hour front desk. Corporate travelers will find an unstaffed business center that includes copy, fax and secretarial services. The hotel's restaurant serves beef, seafood and various international cuisines all day while the lobby lounge offers top shelf liquors and wines. Each guest room is sleek and stylish, featuring a Sheraton Four Comfort Bed, climate controls, 32-inch LCD TV with satellite stations, DVD player, kitchenette with refrigerator, Wi-Fi access and spacious private bathroom with slippers, robes and hair dryer. Larger suites and rooms with fireplaces are also available upon request.
