The Hoover Dam was constructed in just under five years during the United States' Great Depression. The dam is located in the Colorado River's Black Canyon on the border between Arizona and Nevada. For nine years it was the world's largest concrete structure and the world's largest hydroelectric power generating station. Today, it is a National Historic Landmark and the American Society of Civil Engineers has declared it one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders.
