China Hiking
If you're not in the mood to hike the entire wall but are looking for more of a rugged experience than just a package bus tour, then the tours from China Hiking could be the perfect fit. Each day the bus drops tourists at a different spot along the wall for a six-to-nine-mile hike before picking them up and retiring to a hotel for a relaxing night. After each third day of hiking, the tour breaks for a full day of sightseeing, allowing visitors to soak up the cultural and historical significance of the region.
The Beijing Hikers
Like the name implies, Beijing Hikers offer walking tours all throughout the region with hikes of the Great Wall taking place each Sunday. While the routes vary by season and group, these hikes are usually easy to mid range in difficulty, although throughout the month the company offers more intensive hikes for more visitors wanting to push their endurance limits. Hikes usually last about eight hours, and each night hikers return to a designated hotel.
Great Wall Adventures
This seven-day camping excursion is for all those explorers who really want to push their limits and explore the wall and surrounding area in greater detail. The tour starts in the Hebei province and continues along the wall to Gubeiku in Beijing. Some sections of the trip require some climbing over fallen parts of the wall, so being in good physical shape is highly recommended. But the benefits of an extended immersion into China's culture are well worth it.
