Rogers, Arkansas, offers great access to the outdoor world and a variety of fun for all age groups. With plenty of hands-on fun, kids can explore old world museums, miles of streams and lakes, and live production plays for their imagination. If you are searching for some fun activities for your kids in Rogers, here are a few suggestions.

Explore History

Rogers has a rich community heritage. In the early 1800s, the city was founded on a stop from the San Francisco railroad. The city became a shipping port for trade throughout the surrounding communities. After World War II, several industrial plants and retail stores moved to Rogers. Because of the great economic resources carried in from the port, it became one of the fastest growing places in Arkansas.

This history is carried on through the Rogers Historical Museum. There are exhibits that give a glimpse into life during the towns early start. A favorite exhibit inside the museum is the 1895 Hawkins House "Attic." Kids can experience how an early 1800s family lived, ate and attended school during those times. Everything is hands-on in the "Attic," which allows kids to try on clothes, play with tools and read old school books. The Museum is opened Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m to 5 p.m., and closed on major holidays. There is a charge for special exhibits. But, no cost to the Hawkins House and the main exhibit gallery.

State Park Adventure

For some outdoor fun, visit Arkansas' largest state park, the Hobbs State Park Conservation Area. Located 10 miles east of Rogers on Highway 12, it is easily accessible with lots of parking. Inside the park's visitor center are classrooms for making a "Tree Cookie" necklace, a favorite for children of all ages. You can also sign up the kids for a scavenger hunt in the park. Everyone receives a special prize when they turn in their scavenger hunt sheet.

With access to Beaver Lake, the entire family can enjoy a discovery cruise tour aboard a 28-foot pontoon vessel. The kids can enjoy fishing on the lake, guided hiking in the wooded areas, and mountain biking. And for even more adventures, there are four trails to walk, backpack and enjoy equestrian riding. A fun-filled day at the state park is a must.
