Romantic Getaways in New York State

Sweeping vistas, quaint towns with tree-lined, Victorian-era streets and rural farmland are only a small part of what New York State has to offer. In addition to romantic bed and breakfasts, New York has numerous outdoor activities, including vineyard tours, hiking, cycling, climbing, boating and organic farming. From the Niagara Falls region to the Finger Lakes and even Washington County, New York State has many romantic getaways.

Niagara Falls and the surrounding area are synonymous with images of romantic getaways. Situated just north of the great falls is the quaint town of Lewiston, where you'll find the Piper's Village Inn. Set in a Victorian-era home, the inn has six rooms between the main home and the carriage house; each has cable television and air-conditioning. Daily breakfast is served in the dining room and you can also request "breakfast in a basket" room service for an added touch of romance.

The inn offers a Niagara Wine Trail Package, which includes a limousine tour, wine tasting and meals, as well as a Relaxation Retreat within-room massages.

Piper's Village Inn is within walking distance of shops, dining, museums, festivals and the Artpark. In 10 to 20 minutes, you can drive to Niagara Falls, Niagara Wine Trails and Lake Ontario. The inn also provides free bike use (with advanced registration) to enjoy a scenic ride along the Niagara River. If you're really adventurous, hike through Niagara Gorge and take a Whirlpool Jet Tour down the River.

The Vagabond Inn, Finger Lakes Region

From wine to shopping and a plethora of outdoor adventures, the Finger Lakes Region of New York State has plenty to do during your romantic getaway. The town of Naples, nestled at the southern end of Canandaigua Lake in the glacier-carved hills of the Finger Lakes, is a quiet, lovely place to visit.

Secluded on a mountaintop, the Vagabond Inn in Naples offers rooms and suites with fireplaces, hot tubs, satellite televisions and wireless Internet. In addition to sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and lakes, the inn is 15 minutes from local ski areas, wineries, golf clubs and performing arts centers. Amenities at the Vagabond include a pool, a great room with stone fireplaces and daily breakfast; the kitchen is also available for use by the guests.

Area diversions include hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, golfing, wineries and festivals. The inn offers private wine tours to the local wineries in a Cadillac Escalade ESV.

Lant Hill Farm Bed & Breakfast, Washington County

Within driving distance of the popular tourist areas of Lake George and Saratoga Springs, New York's Washington County borders the nearby state of Vermont. Meandering country roads, quaint Victorian villages and numerous outdoor adventures make this an ideal location for a romantic getaway. The town of Argyle, settled by Scottish settlers in the 1700s, is a quiet, rural locale.

Nestled among rolling pastures in Argyle, the Lant Hill Farm Bed & Breakfast offers two private guest rooms. Both rooms include views, private baths with shower robes, games, fresh cut flowers in season, an alarm clock and an iron. A full breakfast is served daily in the public rooms or on the deck with sweeping vistas of the countryside.

As part of a working organic farm, the Lant Hill Bed & Breakfast is a secluded destination with plenty of options for scenic walks, as well as skiing. You're welcome to participate in many on-site farm activities such as gathering eggs, hauling hay, boiling sap for maple syrup, harvesting grapes and picking wildflowers for the table. Families with children are welcome.

Within a half-hour's drive of the farm is a variety of attractions including covered bridges, historic restaurants, museums and shopping.
