Sleeper Chairs
One of the best benefits of traveling first class is the extra room and comfort. Leg room in economy is scarce, and rows sometimes have as many as eight seats across. On the other hand, leg room in first class is plentiful, and rows usually have between two and four seats. Many airlines now offer sleeper chairs in first class for flights longer than five hours. Qantas Airline's first class sleepers are self-contained compartments the size of a tiny bedroom featuring chairs that swivel and fold down to full sleepers and private television screens. Other airlines offer similar amenities for first class passengers, including a multitude of satellite channels in-flight.
Gourmet Meals and Drinks
While many airlines these days are asking economy passengers to pay for pre-packaged meals, first class offers an array of food choices prepared by some of the top chefs in the world. For the ultimate luxury, Lufthansa offers a chef on the plane that will prepare the meal to order from a menu of several choices on international flights to Asia. In addition, fine wines, spirits and champagne are included in the cost of the flight.
First Class Lounge
For travelers who have business to take care of, the first class lounge offered by many airlines is optimal. Most lounges have free Wi-Fi, fax service and telephone service. Air Canada's lounges offer full food service, free drinks, and multiple television screens, all in the comfort of a lounge that is designed with elegance and comfort in mind.
