With miles of shoreline, beaches, marinas, golf courses and more, there is plenty for outdoor enthusiasts to do in Margate, New Jersey, according to city tourism information. Days in the sun full of boating, biking, surfing or fishing can help you work up a big appetite. From a casual meal to a full dinner, restaurants along Margate's harbor side offer waterfront dining with a view.

Sofia Restaurant

With a warm, Old World design featuring wrought iron, stucco and fresco paintings, Sofia Restaurant sets the mood for a Greek meal. Located on the waterfront promenade at Margate's bayside, guests may opt for a table on the upstairs veranda for dinner with a view. The bar menu offers appetizers and light foods, including chicken souvlaki and spanakopita, as well as traditional Greek salads, mousaka and even a petite filet mignon. The full menu starts with a raw bar, complete with seafood cocktail and middle neck clams, and moves on to mezethes, the traditional Mediterranean dips with pita bread. Seafood specialties, a bit of pasta, steaks, chops and chicken round out the offerings. The restaurant is open well past the dinner hour, with live jazz and DJ music some nights.

Steve & Cookies By the Bay

With separate and distinct dining areas, guests of Steve & Cookies By the Bay may find an atmosphere to suit most moods. The piano room features live jazz music nightly, and the oyster bar room has become a place for friendly gatherings. The formal dining room features 11-foot-tall windows, revealing an inland waterway view, and the bar offers a casual spot for a light bite. The Culinary Institute of America-trained chef has developed menus centered on seasonal tastes, including the fresh, lighter fare of summertime and the satisfying, richer foods of the winter months. From fresh Maine lobster in the summer to roasted duck with bourbon sweet potatoes in the winter, the culinary staff promises to use the best available ingredients. Appetizers range from light, such as the crispy sushi tuna roll, to heavy, such as ragout of beef short rib with pasta and ricotta. The entrée menu features fish and shellfish, chops, poultry and steaks. During the summer months, a New Jersey blueberry pie is a featured dessert.

Maynard's Café

There's no need to change out of the shorts and flip-flops or jeans and hiking boots before entering Maynard's. The casual atmosphere features outdoor dining and music in the Starlight Garden and indoor fun with pool tables and high-definition televisions. The menu is casual, too, beginning with finger food choices such as chicken wings and tenders, pizza, potato skins, burgers and more. A full lunch or dinner may include the Caesar salad and hot or cold sandwiches. The summer menu features fresh seafood dishes served in the Starlight Garden. Live entertainment and DJ music are offered either inside or outside on select nights.
