Chippewa River Resorts

The Chippewa River in Wisconsin, the largest of the three rivers in the U.S. of the same name, runs through northwestern Wisconsin originating at Lake Chippewa and emptying into the Mississippi near the Wisconsin-Minnesota border. There are several rustic resorts falling along the river's path, usually in spots where the river opens up to a lake, such as Holcombe Lake and Lake Wissota. These resorts offer little in the way of modern amenities, but ample opportunity to experience the outdoor life of northern Wisconsin -- especially the fishing.

Flater's Flambeau Point Resort

Flater's Resort in Holcombe is situated at the headwaters of Lake Holcombe, where the Chippewa and Flambeau rivers enter the lake. Five cabins are available at the resort featuring complete kitchens, TVs, decks and rivers views. Guests can experience guided river trips on the Chippewa and Flambeau rivers. Boat rentals are available and the area is excellent for game fishing, including muskie, northern and walleyed pike, small mouth bass, catfish and sturgeon. Dining is available at the resort's lounge and in nearby cities. Other amenities include a swimming beach, playground, basketball court and softball diamond. Access to bike and walking trails is nearby.
