Hotel du Lac
Lugano (lake) image by Forests&Mountains from

This four-star family run hotel is located directly on the shores of Lake Lugano. Nothing about the bland outside appearance of the hotel reveals the flavor of a stay within its walls. Most rooms feature large balconies with views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The modern decor is accented with lots of blond wood and soothing shades of cream. The views through a wall of floor-to-ceiling glass inside the hotel's restaurant, L'Arozzo, are nearly as panoramic as those from the terrace of hotel's large outdoor pool. There are spa facilities here as well.
The Hotel du Lac closes for a winter respite between late December and March.

Hotel Lugano Dante Center
As the name suggests, the Hotel Lugano Dante Center is in the middle of things in this bustling town. It is situated adjacent to a central pedestrian shopping district yet it is only a short walk from the lake. The breakfast buffet is complimentary with your reservations and includes not only pastries and breads, but meats, fruits and cheeses as well as a selection of teas and coffees, including cappuccino.
Upon arrival guests are offered complimentary juice and there is coffee in the lobby to encourage mingling.
Rooms at the hotel--at least below the level of junior suite--are small by American standards, but typical of small European hotels. The room decor is tasteful if conventional. There is underground parking for those arriving by car and the hotel offers conference facilities for business groups up to 200.

Grand Hotel Eden
This large 5-star lakefront hotel has been in business nearly continuously since 1870 but has undergone a number of metamorphoses and expansions and now appears modern in design. Conference space at the hotel can accommodate up to 300 attendees. Breakfast, which is included with your stay, is served in a dedicated breakfast room or on the terrace. There are a number of other dining options at Grand Hotel Eden, including Oasis, which serves modern Italian cuisine and features table-side service including several flambéed dishes. Another option at dinnertime is La Zattera, a floating raft where diners can enjoy the rhythm of the lake as well as the views.
