New Hampshire Children's Activities

New Hampshire is a scenic state that boasts a wealth of outdoor activities for young and old alike. It is home to the White Mountains, hundreds of hiking trails, many expansive and beautiful lakes, and a variety of outdoor theme parks. There are many ways for kids to have fun while enjoying all the natural beauty that New Hampshire has to offer.

Story Land

This theme park, nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, is designed around classics from children's literature. Children can begin their day by riding the Huff Puff Rail Road, the Buccaneer Pirate Ship and Alice's Tea Cups. Afterward, the Silver Mine Tour and and the Slipshod Safari Tour await. Kids may want to take a break by watching the Royal Hanneford Circus and the Hilltop Harmony Musical Stage show. They can end the day by cooling off at the "sprayground" and playing with characters like Mother Goose and other familiar favorites who walk around the park and interact with young visitors.

Polar Caves Park

Polar Caves Park, formed by glacial activity, offers seasonal fun for children and their families. By way of self-guided tour on a boardwalk, children can safely walk through the park's many caves and crevices. As they explore this granite wonderland, children also learn about the park's foliage and natural surroundings. At the end of the walk, kids can relax at the petting zoo, where deer, pheasants and other animals reside.

Alpine Adventures

Alpine Adventures offers three specialty tours: Zipline Canopy Tours, Snowmobile Tours, and Safari Tours. Children will delight in sailing over the trees on a zipline, adventuring through the snow on guided snowmobile excursions, and embarking on a rugged, off road safari that goes to the top of Barron Mountain, a beautiful summit that is part of the White Mountains.

Water Country

This classic New England water park--the region's largest--is sure to please children of all ages. Small children will enjoy exploring the Tahiti Tree Park and being drenched by Ollie Octopus. Older riders may enjoy Geronimo, a vertical drop slide, or plunging down the Shoot and Screamer on an inner tube built for two. This park is perfect for a hot summer day.

Squam Lakes Natural Science Center

This science center has several activities for young outdoor enthusiasts and budding scientists. Kids can explore the Bobcat exhibit, the Raptor exhibit and the Black Bear exhibit. Then, they can relax at the Upper Pond, which is home to a variety of wildlife. Several hikes also originate at the science center. Mt. Fayal trail is about a mile long. For visitors looking for a shorter walk, the Ecotone trail is about one-third of a mile long, and offers pretty views of local fields and forests.
