It is possible to fly fish for these species at any time of year, with fall being an especially common time to go for them. During fall, it is recommended to sight-cast to the surface-feeding stripers and bluefish. When fishing for stripers high in the water column, a collateral benefit is that there are usually trout in the area making for incidental strikes. When the weather turns cold, the species will head to the warm-water outflows from local power plants. Follow the fish there during the winter months for quality hits and fly fishing.
