There are exercises that you can do to improve your jumping ability. Working on your overall physical fitness is necessary for increasing your vertical leap. Endurance, explosive power and muscle strength are some factors to focus on for achieving higher jumps for sports.

Jump Rope Exercises

Jumping rope is a simple yet effective exercise that can increase your vertical leap. It builds jumping ability by improving stamina, strengthening the leg and calf muscles as well as upper-body muscle groups. Another benefit is that jumping rope also burns a lot of calories. Work up a regular routine of jump rope exercises by incorporating it into your workout plan. There are also different variations of jumps and holding the rope that you can do to expand movements and improve agility.

Squats

Squats are another exercise that can benefit jumping ability by strengthening the leg muscles. Squats help build your thighs, hips and buttocks and strengthen leg muscles through a full range of motion while also improving flexibility and stabilizing your knees. To perform squat exercises, get in the starting position by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart. Bend your knees and lower your body while keeping your back straight and head up. Keep both thighs parallel to the ground and stand up slowly using your thigh muscles. Observe proper position when doing squat exercises to prevent injuries.

Run Stadium Stairs

This is a high-intensity workout that can improve your vertical leap. Running stadium stairs improves cardiovascular fitness, endurance and muscle development. To improve jump explosiveness, add a bit of leap or bounding movements when running up the stairs. When doing this exercise, run up the stairs and walk down once you reached the top and keep going for as long as you can endure without causing injury. Wear protective running shoes with good traction.
