Ice Fishing Houses in Maine

Ice Fishing Houses in Maine

Ice fishing houses differ from ice fishing shelters in that they are more of a permanent structure. There are ice fishing houses that are considered permanent and semi-permanent. The permanent type is one that has been built on the ice or that has been built elsewhere and then lowered onto the ice. A semi-permanent one has its own wheels and is more mobile. Some are so well-equipped with luxuries you might almost forget you are out on the ice. Maine is known for its ice fishing season, which runs from January to the end of March.

Northwood Outfitters offers an ice fishing trip that includes an extensive package. It plans a whole day of fishing on the ice, including use of an ice fishing house. You are taken to Moosehead Lake, where the ice fishing house is, to find pre-drilled holes for your fishing gear. Northwood Outfitters then makes food and coffee or hot chocolate while you relax and get to fishing. A guide is available who will tell you the history of the lake, help you fish and show you how to ski or snowshoe across the lake if you like.
