New Balance
New Balance is well-known for its line of inexpensive, quality running shoes and cross-trainers, so it should come as no surprise that its walking shoes also earn high marks from reviewers. Its MO1520GT walking shoe, made with a Gore-Tex top and Vibram soles that make the shoe as useful on a hiking trail as on a sidewalk, was ranked by Walking.org as among its Top 5 walking shoes for 2009. HealthMad was nuts for New Balance in its January 2010 Top 10, with two New Balance shoe models ranked as best trail shoe and best racewalking shoe respectively. "Prevention" magazine described the New Balance 760 as the perfect walking shoe for narrow feet.
Ascis
Ascis is a Japanese shoe company with a wide line of sporting shoes. Its walking shoes perform well in reviews, due to the well-padded fit of its products. "Good Houskeeping" magazine ranked the Ascis Gel Kayano Walker 7 for what it described as its "cushioning, especially at the pressure points." "Prevention" magazine gave the Gel Fluent LV shoes high marks for their padding as well.
Brooks Sports
Brooks Sports specializes in running and soccer shoes, but it also has a fine line of walking shoes. "Good Housekeeping" magazine ranked its Defyance model of shoes for "everything--fit, support, comfort, [and] cushioning." HealthMad also ranked its Beast Motion Control walking shoes as the best choice for walkers with over-pronated feet, or simply for the overweight.
