Historic Newnan, Ga., located just 40 minutes southwest of Atlanta, offers a variety of outdoor activities for kids of all ages. As this city with small-town charm continues to grow, so do the number of recreational activities for families. Thanks to a mild, year-round climate, kids can get out and get active each season, with a variety of things to do. Nearby Peachtree City offers beautiful wooded golf cart paths, with various parks and play areas. Whether you plan a day trip or take a spontaneous afternoon outing, kids are sure to benefit from the many outdoor recreational areas in and around Newnan.

Dunaway Gardens

What's old is new again. Originally opened in 1934 as an outdoor theater for young, aspiring artists, the gardens closed and sat vacant for nearly 50 years. In 2005, the garden gates reopened with a renewed sense of vision. The 25-acre park offers rock and floral gardens to explore, spring-fed pools and beautiful rock paths and staircases to venture upon. Friday and Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sundays are noon until 4 p.m.

Carl Miller Park

Expanded in early 2009, this 14-acre park provides area residents and visitors with abundant walking/jogging trails, preschool and elementary playgrounds and plenty of picnic space.

The "Kids Castle" playground is a 32,000-square-foot playground featuring unique play areas, offering endless places for creative play. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. April through October and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. November through March.

Blueberry Hill Farm

Kids will enjoy an all-natural summertime experience at Blueberry Hill Farm. Blueberries are available for picking from mid-June through August. The farm also has picnic and children's play areas. Hours of operation are from dawn until dusk. Containers are provided.

Peachtree City Parks & Recreation

Neighboring Peachtree City, offers more than 90 miles of natural and scenic paths for families to explore. Kids can bike, enjoy a golf cart ride or just take a casual walk through nature. An indoor recreational and aquatic center offers year-round activities. Lake Peachtree and Lake Kedron offer boating, fishing and picnic areas.
