Houston, Texas is home to several types of recreation sites as well as sporting facilities for outdoor enthusiasts. There are 10 state parks within 60 miles of Houston that offer hiking, cycling and climbing. Houston also boasts over 80,000 restaurants representing 35 countries and several types of American cuisine. Of these restaurants, three are also clubs that feature improv and other comedy acts.

Improv Comedy Club

The Improv Comedy Club in Houston is part of a nationwide comedy club chain offering food and spirits in addition to local and national acts including well-known comedians. The Improv Comedy Club has a restaurant and full-bar that are available during every show. Appetizers including calamari, chicken tenders and fajita nachos are offered, as are steak, fish or chicken entrees, salads and burgers. Chocolate eruption cake, New York-style cheesecake and Snickers pie are all available for dessert. Dining guests are seated in the upstairs area and are separate from the admission fees. As of 2010, there is a two-item-per-person minimum inside the Improv Comedy Club, and the restaurant items fulfill this requirement. Check the club's website for information on show times as well as comedy acts. Guests must be 18 to enter the club and seats are available on a first-come, first served basis.

The Comedy Showcase

The Comedy Showcase was founded in 1983 by comedian Danny Martinez and has helped develop many nationally recognized comedians. The club serves up comedy and improv along with a full-service bar and appetizers. The menu includes beer-battered onion rings, breaded zucchini, chicken tenders and cheese sticks. Smaller snack items include peanuts, gourmet freshly-popped popcorn, goldfish crackers, pretzels and snack mix. The Comedy Showcase is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in 2010. Two shows are offered regularly on both Friday and Saturday nights, and special Thursday night shows are sometimes offered. A two-drink minimum is required for all guests. While seats are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, reservations for tickets are strongly recommended. Laff Spot Comedy Club

Laff Spot Comedy Club features national and local comedy acts in suburban Houston. The club menu contains a variety of appetizers including Italian breaded ravioli, spinach artichoke dip and chicken tenders. Other menu items include popcorn shrimp, shrimp skewers, crab meat stuffed mushrooms and skillet nachos. A fried cheesecake plate is offered to those looking for a sweet treat. The Laff Spot has a full-service bar offers several different specialty drinks including wine, beer, Red Bull-combination beverages, frozen drinks and other spirits. Guests must be at least 18 years of age to enter the club. In 2010, the Laff Spot is open for two shows on Friday nights, three shows on Saturday evenings and one on Sunday. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the website for the dress code and information on the upcoming acts and show times.
