Amarillo, Texas is a historic city located in the center of the panhandle. Once part of Route 66, Amarillo is now home to several cultural centers and events. Rodeos, horse shows and a balloon race are all part of this southwestern city. It is also considered the gateway to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, which is America's second-largest canyon. Palo Duro Canyon features several types of outdoor recreation including horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking. East Amarillo is home to the Amarillo Museum of Art as well as several museums and hotels for out-of-town guests.
