Charleston International Airport is the busiest in South Carolina. A joint civil-military airport with Charleston Air Force Base, CHS has a main and crosswind runway. One of these runways is suitable for all weather conditions. The three-story, 270,000 square foot passenger terminal has 10 gates. Bird lovers will find toting those binoculars along was a good idea as the airport is just 19 minutes from the Magnolia Gardens, a former home of colonial aristocracy dating to 1676 and home to 240 bird species. The gardens also offer hiking and mountain bike trails.

Myrtle Beach International Airport
Myrtle Beach Internation Airport in the northeast of the state is a popular destination for tourists. A public-use airport and county-owned, MYR has one runway. The two-level passenger terminal has seven gates. Fifteen minute free parking is available. Those craving the natural world can head south 22 minutes to Huntington Beach State Park, where campgrounds are provided in close proximity to the shoreline. The 8.7-mile Sandpiper Pond Trail leads hikers through varying park ecosystems.

Columbia Metropolitan Airport
Columbia Metropolitan Airport is the state capitol's main airport. Known as CAE, this civil airport has two runways and a helipad. The two-level passenger terminal has 10 gates. Garage parking is free for the first 20 minutes. Cyclists who feel cramped after a long flight can stretch their legs by road biking 65 miles through the countryside to Santee State Park on the shores of Lake Marion. Alternatively, walkers can explore area flora and fauna in Harbison State Forest---just 17 minutes from the airport.
