Alexandria, Virginia, is located just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., and was once the main shipping point for the upper Chesapeake region during the early 19th century. When Virginia seceded from the Union during the Civil War, federal troops commandeered the city because of its rail and water connections to protect Washington. Alexandria's Old Town district is ripe with markers of its rich history, and visitors to the area will find a variety of hotels to accommodate their stay.

Holiday Inn Alexandria

The Holiday Inn is located on the northern edge of Alexandria's historic Old Town district, which features restaurants and quaint shops as well as historic buildings such as the Lee-Fendall House Museum and Garden that preserve and present Alexandria's history. The hotel was renovated in 2008 and offers free high-speed Internet access, cable TV, morning newspaper, and shuttle to Reagan National Airport and the King Street Metro stop. Rooms include a coffeemaker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Some of the 150 rooms have connecting doors. All are smoke free and have modern, earth-toned decorations with tiled floors. Some rooms have doors that open onto small decks. The hotel also features an indoor and an outdoor pool, fitness center, 24-hour business center and an on-site restaurant, Bistro On First, where kids 12 and younger eat for free when dining with a guardian. Same-day dry cleaning is also available. For an extra charge, your pet is welcome---even large dogs.
