The restaurant environment surrounding Manhattan's Metropolitan Museum of Art mirrors the museum's high culture; the neighborhood of the Upper East Side contains restaurants that present dishes from many of the world's most prized cuisines. On the blocks bordering the Met, you can find restaurants serving first-class Italian, German and French delicacies.

Cafe Boulud

Cafe Boulud is located on 76th between 5th Avenue and Madison. It's a French brasserie opened in 2005 by Chef Daniel Boulud. Boulud is one of New York's most heralded chefs; one of his other restaurants, Daniel, is one of only five New York City restaurant's to earn a four-star rating from "The New York Times." Cafe Boulud specializes in French bistro classics, including famous desserts such as the chocolate pot du creme and pastries like madeleines. To fit in, dress in business casual.

Caffe Grazie

Caffe Grazie is a mid-priced Italian restaurant located a few blocks up from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The restaurant is noted for its townhouse setting, which stands out from many of New York's over-the-top ballroom restaurants. The restaurant specializes in Italian food, but many of its dishes are world-fusion. Caffe Grazie serves what it calls a lunch "bento box," named after the Japanese standby, which includes two small savory dishes and one sweet dessert. Other menu highlights include braised short ribs, warm goat cheese salads and veal parmigiana.

Cafe Sabarsky

Cafe Sabarsky is a top-class German restaurant located just across from the Met, which is attached to the Neue Gallerie. Cafe Sabarsky offers a good option for diners who just want a quick bite to eat rather than a long sit-down meal. Sabarsky attempts to recreate the feel of a 19th-century Viennese cafe, featuring period art and decor in its converted mansion-house. Menu highlights are any of its pastries.
