North Carolina is a destination for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy everything from protected beaches to inland lakes and mountains. The Outer Banks barrier islands combine nature with American history. The numerous inland lakes and parks provide plenty of outdoor activities. Ramada Plaza, Nags Head Beach, has an indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi, The hotel lies in the middle part of the island, with the towns of Sanderling and Duck to the north, and Hattarus to the south. The guest rooms include refrigerators and microwaves, with the beach and ocean just outside the hotel.

Area activities encompass visits to the Wright Brothers First Flight Monument and the Manteo Aquarium. A string of lighthouses are available for adventure-seekers to climb. From late May through August, visitors travel to historic Roanake Island and the site of the first British settlement in the Americas 400 years ago. An outdoor play, "The Lost Colony," dramatizes the history, and the story of Virginia Dare, the first English child born in this settlement. Hikers can explore Jockey's Ridge State Park dune system, the largest in the eastern half of the United States.
