Yokota Air Base accommodation is controlled by the US Air Force, and has strict regulations regarding use of the facilities. It is usually 96 to 100 percent full, so advance booking is a must. Yokota Air Base is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty not too far from Tokyo. Attractions in the nearby town of Fussa include well-groomed bike paths and spectacular views of Mount Fuji, about 50 miles away from the base.

Yokota Air Base, Kanto Lodge

Since the Air Base accommodation is usually full, visitors tend to say in Kanto Lodge, where Building 15 acts as the reception area to offer services to the guests which include 24 hour check in and out, free wireless in the lobby and help with car rental. There is also a fitness center, laundry and dry cleaning.

At the Yujo Recreation Center you will find area maps for train and car travel, brochures, walking tours, and other items of interest including a flyer on useful Japanese phrases. The Outdoor Recreation office has maps and advice for areas of interest to the outdoor enthusiast as well. A detailed map of the base is located in the back of the telephone directory on site so you can make the most of your time at Yokota.

Tama Hills Recreation Area

In addition to the main accommodation at Yokota Air Base is the Military resort at the Tama Hills Recreation Area. It provides a wide range of outdoor activities, from golf to indoor and outdoor swimming, bowling, and a recreation area. It offers ecotours of the area and is a biodiversity center.

There is also camping, picnicking, and a wide variety of outdoor sports. Equipment rental is available.

The outdoor recreation group arranges activities for interested parties, which include skiing, snowboard, and kayaking. There is a mandatory weekly briefing for anyone planning to climb Mount Fuji. There is also a cycle service center and facilities to help plan outdoor events and bring all supplies to and from the outdoor destination chosen. The equipment includes barbecues, ice chests, canopies and chairs.

Activities include hiking, horseback riding, paintball, cycling, archery, and miniature golf through the Tama Outdoor Recreation Office. Softball fields, picnic shelters, and a children's play park are also available. Special activities include a Friendship Festival, tournaments, and the Tour de Tama mountain bike race.

The New Sanno

For those looking for accommodation closer to Tokyo, the Naval Hotel The New Sanno offers accommodation in a residential center of this bustling metropolis.

It has all of the amenities you would expect from a top class hotel, including: shopping, a fitness center, a swimming pool complex open year round, and a variety of restaurants.

Room amenities include: bath tub and toiletries, full bath amenities, hair dryer, refrigerator, iron, ironing board, a video tape player, DVD player for region 1, TV with remote control, English language TV channels, DVD rental, video, cable internet, daily newspaper delivery, facilities for making coffee, tea or hot chocolate, and a Yukata (Japanese bathrobe) and slippers.
