Wyandotte is located in Wayne County, Michigan. The city is a waterfront communuty and is also often called the "Heart of Downriver." Visitors can enjoy the area's rich history, distinctive architecture, downtown district and cultural ties. Kayakers can find many spots for paddling in the area as Wyandotte is in the southeastern lower peninsula of the Detroit River.

Wyandotte Shores, Detroit River

Kayakers can explore the Detroit River Heritage Water Trail and Detroit River in Wyandotte. Riverside Kayak Connection offers equipment rentals as well as tours. The trail's newly developed shoreline offers lush vegetation, calm waters and scenic views. There is a Detroit River Sunset Tour that includes a touring kayak, paddle, kayak transportation and personal flotation device (PFD) with whistle.

Basf Waterfront Park

Located right along the Detroit River, paddlers can kayak and enjoy the park's 20 acres for other recreational activities. There is a rowing launch at the park that features access to slow moving backwaters. Kayak fishing for walleye is available and is ideal in April and May. Other activities at the park include hiking, volleyball, bicycling and picnicking.

Gallup Park Canoe Livery

Gallup Park Canoe Livery offers kayaking access to Huron River. Equipment rentals are also available, which include one-person kayaks, two-person kayaks and kids kayaks. Visitors can choose to participate in arranged programs and activities such as river day camps, paddle parties, nature hikes and paddles, canoe and kayak instruction and moonlight paddles. Other activities include nature walks, fishing and picnicking.
