Chef Louie's, located roadside on I-90, entices travelers with a billboard and an enormous roadside bull. The menu boasts prime cuts of beef, a staple in South Dakota, along with homey entrees and sides. Pre-meal, the restaurant serves up bread with honey butter. Other entrees include coconut shrimp, prime rib and chicken prosciutto. Each entrée comes with soup or salad and a potato; among side dishes are garlic-mashed potatoes and baked sweet potato.

Service is friendly at Chef Louie's. The drink prices are quite low and the wine list is extensive. Steak prices run at around $17, as of 2010. Chef Louie's is rarely crowded and the décor might be considered corny, but the food is substantial and relatively inexpensive for a hearty meal.

Housed in a remodeled train depot on Mitchell's Main Street, the Depot Pub and Grill boasts a friendly staff, a local feel, red leather chairs and an upscale pub décor. A few blocks south of the locally famed tourist destination, the Corn Palace, the Depot Pub and Grill is a dining destination for local hunters, workers and travelers alike.

The food is essentially pub food. Appetizers include supreme nachos, jalapeno poppers, a blooming onion and "Chislic," a South Dakota favorite featuring 10 oz. of cubed red meat atop toast. Char broiled steak options include (among many) country fried steak, a 16 oz. rib-eye, buffalo steak and the Milwaukee Road Steak, which is a 48 oz. top sirloin steak. If diners finish this beast of a steak, they win a free t-shirt. Steaks vary in price; the Milwaukee Road Steak goes for $35, but other prices range around $15 (2010 pricing.) The Depot also offers seafood and pasta dishes, as well as homemade desserts like Snicker Cake and a chocolate chimichanga.
