Saffron
Saffron may be just the place when you're in the mood for Indian cuisine. Sheer colorful draperies hang throughout the space, and the walls are adorned with Indian tile. Linens are starched and colorful, and the chargers are gold-rimmed. You will find dishes here that are not on the typical neighborhood Indian restaurant menu. Consider the Nawabi Saffron Jhinga Karma---shrimp cooked with cream sauce, almonds, cashews and other nuts. There is a large selection of tawa or Indian stir-fry. The dessert menu is extensive though steeply priced relative to main dishes.

The India Palace
Before paying a visit to the buffet at the India Palace on Okeechobee Boulevard, take a moment to tease your palate with a chilled mint and salt lassi. Of course the 10-item buffet is not your only option here. Get going with a plate of three little medhu vada---fried lentil donuts. Vegetarians might choose the house specialty, palak paneer, made with cubes of soft white Indian cheese in creamy and spicy spinach. Soak up the extra sauce with some onion stuffed kulcha naan baked in a tandoor oven.

Tasty Kabab House
This little no-frills restaurant sits next to a bank and only seats about 10, so it's a good idea to scout out a park bench or patio on which to settle in and enjoy the low-cost offerings of the Tasty Kabab House. It is know for its little samosas with spicy dipping sauce and the chicken tikki. Try the lamb kadal infused with ginger and enlivened with chopped cilantro.
