Chain hotels and dogs are not a popular combination in this part of Mexico. And that's a real shame as--for the traveler--they offer a sense of reassurance and security while traveling abroad.
Fortunately, there's one that bucks the trend. Located at the heart of Leon, Radisson's Poliforum Plaza is a small, contemporary hotel. It's well-placed for exploring the city's treasures or traveling further afield to enjoy the area's natural beauty.
Guests enjoy a range of amenities including Internet access, beauty salon, gym, bike cellar and outdoor swimming pool. Each of this pet-friendly hotel's 25 bedrooms is en-suite: guaranteeing privacy. Tennis courts, a golf course and a nature/jogging trail are all within a short distance of the hotel.

Boutique Hotels Near Leon, Guanajuato
Central, eastern Mexico has a rich mining heritage that is reflected in its architecture. Just two hours' drive from Leon, Guanajuato is the former mining city of Mineral de Pozos. Once a hub housing as many as 50,000 miners looking for gold and silver, it has been developed as an artisan's city, drawing craftsmen from Mexico, Europe and the U.S.
The eight-room Hotel Posadas de las Minas is an excellent illustration of this former ghost town's change of fortunes. Built during the Industrial age, this hotel--built in the Porfiriato style--once housed a wealthy banker's residence, patio and--for the miners--a general store and soup factory.
Following the civil war in the 1920s, its buildings were left in ruins. Untouched until the 2002, a Texan couple lovingly undertook the site's transformation into the charming hotel it is today.
From its delightful bedrooms to its pet-friendly owners, the hotel has earned a good reputation since opening in 2004. The only restriction on pets in the hotel is that they must be well-behaved ... as must any children staying, too.
