German Restaurants Near Stillwater, Minnesota

German Restaurants Near Stillwater, Minnesota
Sausages, strudel, traditional schnitzel dishes, sauerkraut, frankfurters and a good, strong beer served in a very large stein are a few of the things that come to mind when "German cuisine" is mentioned. Food from Germany, however, comes in many flavors, and the German restaurants in and around Stillwater, Minnesota, have it all covered.

Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter

Walk along Lofton Avenue in Stillwater and you might feel as if you've stepped into Bavaria. That's exactly why the late owner of Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter, Karl Schoene, built his restaurant in this location--the rolling hills reminded him of home. Forty years later, the business is still serving his wife Elizabeth's recipes and is still owned by the family. The menu includes everything from Kartoffelknodel (potato dumplings) to Jagerschnitzel (a breaded pork cutlet in mushroom sauce).

Bierstube

A short drive will take you to White Bear Lake and one of the five Bierstube restaurants in Minnesota. Also family owned and operated, the Bierstube is a true steakhouse and grill, but with a German twist. One of their signature dishes is a Reuben sandwich, but if you really want to taste the best German cuisine has to offer, try the Taste of Deutschland sampler platter or Hilde's German Meatballs.

Winzer Stube

Winzer Stube is just across the river from Stillwater in Hudson, Wisconsin. Homemade decadent desserts and a well-stocked wine cellar are perfect accompaniments to the robust German menu. If you're not a wine drinker, Winzer Stube has an impressive collection of imported beers, including favorites from Germany.
