Independence Grove, in Central Lake County, is near Libertyville. Independence Grove is centered on a 115-acre lake and offers both recreational and educational activities for kids. There are various trails where families can hike, bike, picnic, skate and jog. The children can enjoy the Children's Grove Playground and the trails where they can see various plant life and wildlife.

Camping
Illinois Beach State Park runs along the northern shore of Lake Michigan. Illinois Beach State Park is 4,160 acres and offers swimming, boating, picnicking, hiking, fishing, biking and camping. The campsites are Class "A" with electricity, showers and sanitary facilities. Additional perks for the children are the guided nature hikes where they can learn about plant life and animals, take a swim at the beach and experience the hands-on-exhibits at the Interpretive Center.

Bobby's Bike Hike is located in downtown Chicago, at the southeast corner of Illinois Street and McClurg Court. Bobby's Bike Hike is a great way for all ages to soak in the sights that Chicago has to offer. There are various bike tours like the Obama Bike Tour, City Lights, Lakefront Neighborhood Tour and a tour for children, age 9 and under, called the Tike Hike. The Tike Hike lets children explore Lincoln Park Zoo, throw coins in a fountain, cycle along a lakefront trail and to win prizes by answering trivia questions.
