West Virginia, referred to as the Mountain State, is associated with the Appalachian Mountains. The Appalachians span the eastern half of West Virginia into its panhandle---where the chain is further categorized into the Alleghenies and Blue Ridge mountains. Monongahela National Forest preserves the majority of this mountain scenery, which includes Spruce Knob---the highest point in West Virginia. Preferred accommodations provide access to Appalachia's mountain trails, campgrounds and ski slopes.

Harpers Ferry Guest House

Harpers Ferry is a quaint town of 300 people that sits at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers at the extreme eastern point of the West Virginia panhandle. This site is directly opposite from the Maryland and Virginia borders.

History buffs recognize Harpers Ferry as a strategic battleground for John Brown's raid and the Civil War. Harpers Ferry is also identified as a key stop along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Today, nature lovers will discover that the Appalachian Trail traces itself directly through the heart of Harpers Ferry.

Harpers Ferry Guest House is a bed and breakfast that mirrors the rustic setting of Harpers Ferry. The home has been inspired by 19th Century architecture, and is ideal for romance. The well-manicured grounds present lush floral arrangements, gardens and views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.
