Vietnamese Restaurants in Portland, OR

Vietnamese immigrants flocked to Portland, Oregon, by the thousands in the 1970s. The City of Roses turned out be a good fit for their culture and cuisine. Vietnam is a country of bicycles, and Portland is a haven for urban bicyclists. Vietnam has a rich and varied food history, and Portland is growing into a foodies' paradise. Portland's Vietnamese restaurants feature much of Vietnam's delectable cuisine, ranging from pho noodle soup to banh mi sandwiches. Three of the best are located on Portland's extensive network of bike paths.

Mekong Vietnamese Grill

The Springwater Corridor is a popular bike path leading from downtown Portland to the Sellwood neighborhood along the Willamette River. Sellwood is home to Mekong Vietnamese Grill, a popular destination for lotus salad, salad rolls and pho noodle soup. This casual restaurant offers traditional seating, community table, counter seating and outdoor dining. Takeout is available, and the specials change weekly.

Binh Minh Bakery and Deli

Northeast Portland has many bike paths, one of which leads directly by the Binh Minh Bakery and Deli. Binh Minh features banh mi, french bread sandwiches with various salty sweet fillings. Try their lemon grass chicken or meatballs. The shop is no frills and cash only, but the delicious food will make you forget everything else.

Pho Van

Pho Van's Hawthorne Restaurant is in an eclectic Southeast Portland neighborhood reminiscent of San Francisco's Haight Ashbury neighborhood. This traditional restaurant features artfully prepared Vietnamese appetizers like Goi Cuon and the special bean dessert Che Van. Don't miss the vermicelli noodle bowl, banana blossom salad and the ginger creme brulee.
