Jackson, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, is known for its downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking and picturesque New England landscape complete with covered bridges and white steeples. It is located at the south end of Pinkham Notch and the Wildcat River courses over rock formations in the village. Downhill skiers may enjoy Black Mountain, and Wildcat Mountain is to the north. The Jackson Ski Touring Foundation maintains 95 cross-country trails in Jackson.

Eagle Mountain House

Stay at one of the 97 rooms in the Eagle Mountain House, and you will have ski-in/ski-out access. Ski packages are available. There is also a restaurant and bar, fitness room, outdoor pool, whirlpool, nine-hole golf course, tennis courts and wireless Internet access on-site. The Eagle Mountain House is a Historic Hotel of America, and has a 280-foot wraparound veranda and a large lobby with a fireplace styled with 19th century elegance. Conferences, meetings and large events such as weddings can be hosted here. Indoor ceremonies can accommodate a maximum of 90 guests, and the outdoor Wedding Tee can accommodate up to 180 guests. Children under the age of 18 stay free when accompanied by an adult. As of March 2010, room rates vary from $69 to $239 depending on the season and type of room. Pets are not allowed.

Inn at Ellis River

The 20 rooms and separate cottage of this luxury inn are decorated with period furnishings and nearly all of them have a wood or gas burning fireplace. Some of the rooms have a private whirlpool tub and balcony. Enjoy any one of the nearby outdoor activities in the area, such as skiing, golf, fishing, hiking, swimming or kayaking. A trout stream flows by the inn, and there is also an outdoor heated swimming pool, hot tub that overlooks the stream, sauna, restaurant and bar. A minimum of two nights stay is usually required on weekends. As of March 2010, room rates vary from $119 to $299 per night for two people and include a full breakfast and afternoon refreshments. Children must be at least 12 years old and pets are not allowed.

Inn at Thorn Hill

For a luxurious and refreshing stay, the Inn at Thorn Hill offers an ideal setting for a small wedding, honeymoon or romantic weekend. There are 16 rooms in the main inn that feature Jacuzzi tubs, gas fireplaces, steam showers and down, duvet-topped beds. For a more private setting, there are three cottages and a carriage house, with six more rooms. There is a full day spa on location, and the restaurant has a 3,000-bottle wine list. The Inn at Thorn Hill is rated No. 22 of the Top 100 Places to Stay in the World, and the No. 2 Resort in the United States. Rates include a full breakfast and afternoon tea, and as of March 2010 vary from $169 to $440 per night. Children must be age 8 or older. Pets are not allowed.
