Glen Waverley BBQ
This restaurant is great for groups of friends, as it offers small set banquet menus. Authentic is the name of the game here. The menu, featuring Cantonese food, is written in Chinese, but the staff are happy to translate, and the restaurant is often packed with Chinese diners. The menu features items such as vegetarian hot pot, crispy prawns and bitter melon. The place is small and can get cramped, but it is vibrant, clean and very modern.

The East Empress has a reputation as one of Melbourne's best Chinese restaurants. The interior is properly Oriental in feel, with jarrah furniture and exotic wall hangings. The restaurant is also known for its polite and experienced staff. In addition to the ubiquitous Peking duck, the menu has some more unusual and meaty offerings such as butter fillet steak, mustard-marinated fillet steak, ginger and shallot lobster and clay pot dishes.

Lim's Nyonya Hut
Nyonya is the food of the Baba-Nyonya people of Malaysia and Singapore. Also known as the Straits Chinese, the Nyonya are descendants of early Chinese immigrants to the Malay peninsula, and their food is a mixture of Asian cuisines featuring ingredients such as chilies, belacan (Malaysian shrimp paste) lemongrass, galangal and turmeric. The most famous Nyonya dish is laksa, and Lim's serves an excellent version, along with Singapore noodles, lee goreng and a selection of curries.
